The Difference a Home Makes - London Borough of Sutton

How do new council homes change people’s lives?

In Sutton, Jean and Russell share what moving into their new homes has meant for them. Jean worked in the NHS and raised three children in a council house; Russell spent years working for Sutton Council itself, driving HGVs and keeping Sutton’s streets clean.

Their stories show that council homes don’t just support people in need — they give working people stability, safety and community, so they can contribute to society.

Part of 1.5 Million New Homes: The Local Government Challenge, sponsored by Red Loft and Lovell.
